5 resultados de ocultación positiva de 2014 MU69

Bajo una “ola polar intensa” con nevada y fuertes vientos se desarrollo la cobertura anunciada. Esta es una de las 5 imágenes con resultados positivos obtenidas por miembros del equipo de New Horizons de la NASA que desplegaron 24 telescopios móviles y 60 observadores (profesionales y aficionados locales) en la Patagónia argentina (Chubut y Santa Cruz) el 17 de julio de 2017. Un debil estrella es ocultado su brillo por un objeto del Cinturón de Kuiper a 6.600 millones de km de la Tierra. La diferencia de tiempo entre los fotogramas es de 200 milisegundos o 0,2 segundos. Estos datos ayudarán a los científicos a medir mejor la forma, el tamaño y el entorno alrededor del objeto. La nave espacial New Horizons volará por esta antigua reliquia de la formación del sistema solar el próximo 1° de enero de 2019. Será el objeto más distante jamás explorado por una nave espacial.
